This year one of my biggest goals was learning how to put spices to work, especially as they offer endless health benefits. The health benefits of turmeric include antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antioxidant, antiseptic, great for the heart, improved brain health, and they improve digestive activities. If that isn’t a reason to give it go, I don’t know what is. It’s best to combine turmeric with black pepper to improve its bioavailability.
This week we were excited to try The First Mess’s Zingy Turmeric Broth. We poured the turmeric broth over black rice, roasted broccoli, roasted green beans, roasted carrots, pan sautéed ground lamb, micro greens, cilantro, and black sesame seeds. The vibrant color of the Zingy Turmeric Broth is hard to resist. We let the children decide what parts to include on their plates. The kids piled their plates with the parts that inspired them and everyone was happy.
