Check out this list we put together of 18 Kids Books That Challenge Gender Norms for MotherMag. We are thankful to attend a preschool that celebrates raising kids with healthy, positive gender development. The school has been a wonderful partner in helping parents and children learn together. Children’s books are also a wonderful way to make this learning accessible to all families.
These kids books remind us that there is more than one way to be a boy or girl and that “toys are toys” and “clothes are clothes.”
This diverse cast of books allows room for children to express all sides of themselves. They also inspire children to be respectful of their peers in whatever way they present themselves to the world.
In this list we highlight a wonderful book inspired by our daughter’s good friend, I’m Jay, Let’s Play, written by our talented preschool teacher Beth Reichmuth.
